anyone successfully boot from wd pidrive 314gb . If so what config were used
You can't directly boot from a USB hard drive.
Sorry to revive a dead post, but I'm also curious about this.
Why can't it boot directly from the USB hard drive? Is it completely impossible, or is it only possible if you have the U-Boot files on an SD/eMMC that point to a kernel on the HDD?
I've been doing research into u-boot, because I'd like to try to run the OS for my Potato from a usb hard drive. It seems other SBCs have had success with having the bootloader on the SD card point to the HDD for the kernel.
Any thoughts on this? I'm certainly no expert, so correct me if I've made any errors in my understanding of how the boot sequence works.
Seems there is a new image in the works that will provide EFI support and GRUB. This basically does everything that I was curious about above. I'm waiting patiently for the 18.04.2 release!
@mossball765 Yes, it will be available in approximately two weeks. GRUB will read any USB devices and add it to the grub.cfg so you can boot off USB devices.
@Wyzco Just bind an IR button to turn on and turn off the display. The board uses 1W at idle so there's not much power savings to be had even in the suspend state.
